El motor obtiene su potencia por la quema de combustible. Al quemar el combustible, también se produce calor, este calor se combina con el calor generado por fricción de las piezas en movimiento adentro del motor.
Para su buen funcionamiento, la temperatura del motor debería ser entre 80ºC y 100ºC. Solamente 30% del calor es aprovechado como energía. Todo lo demás del calor generado tiene que ser eliminado, el 7% de este calor normalmente se disipa al medio ambiente, 33% pasa directo por el escape, y 30% tiene que ser eliminado por el aceite y el sistema de refrigeración.
Para eliminar este exceso de calor, hay dos sistemas de refrigeración en el vehículo.
Aceite: El aceite circula por el motor, absorbiendo lo que puede del calor de combustión, fricción y el turbo. El aceite tiene que poder absorber y disipar calor fácilmente. Esto requiere un buen aceite y superficies libres de material aislante.
Agua o Refrigerante: Agua es un buen líquido para transmitir calor de un punto a otro. Pero el agua tiene tres problemas:
- Congela a cero grados Celsius.
- Hierve a 100ºC a nivel de mar y 84ºC en el altiplano.
- Causa corrosión y herrumbre.
Por eso la elección de un correcto tipo de refrigerante es esencial para un correcto funcionamiento y durabilidad del motor y partes sometidas a calor intenso.
En mi experiencia una tipo de aceite adecuado es el TOTAL RUBIA GAS 15W40 y el MOBIL GEO 15W40.
En cuestión de refrigerante, me decido por el Fleetguard ES Compleat EG Hibrido Azul.
